    Dialysis

  • Lotus Hospital offers state of the art Hemodialysis, CRRT and Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD),

    Hemodialysis

  • Hemodialysis cleans and filters your blood using a machine to temporarily rid your body of harmful wastes, extra salt, and excess water. Hemodialysis helps control blood pressure and helps your body keep the proper balance of important chemicals such as potassium, sodium, calcium, and bicarbonate. Hemodialysis is carried out in a room with polite and well-trained dialysis technicians and nurses, round the clock.

    Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD)

  • Peritoneal Dialysis is another procedure that removes extra water, wastes and chemicals from your body. This type of dialysis uses the lining of your abdomen to filter your blood. This lining is called the peritoneal membrane and acts as the artificial kidney. CAPD is the most common type of peritoneal dialysis. It requires no machine and can be done in any clean, well-lit place. With CAPD, your blood is continually being cleaned. The dialysis solution passes from a plastic bag through the catheter and into your abdomen, where it stays for several hours with the catheter sealed. The period that dialysis solution is in your abdomen is called the dwell time. Next, you drain the dialysis solution back into the bag for disposal. You then use the same catheter to refill your abdomen with fresh dialysis solution so that the cleaning process can begin again. We offer the option of CAPD. Skilled surgeons insert the catheter and dedicated staff train patients to dialyze themselves at home. CAPD fluids by leading companies like Baxter, Claris are available for individual needs.

Renal Transplant

Lotus Hospital offers comprehensive treatment in the form of renal transplants for End Stage Renal Disease. The Nephrology-Urology department takes pride in its teamwork and the Hospital is well equipped with latest diagnostic and therapeutic facilities. Lotus offers living as well as deceased donor transplants not only for adults but for also children.

When the kidneys lose their function, that is filtering wastes from the body, toxic wastes start accumulating in the body. This is called Renal failure. This situation occurs when a patient suffers from certain diseases such as Malignant Hypertension, Chronic Infections, Diabetes, Glomeruli which is inflammation and scarring of the filters in the kidney, Polycystic Kidney Disease and also due to Autoimmune disorders like Lupus. Most of the patients who need a renal transplant will be mostly on dialysis.

A renal transplant may not be considered if the patient has Tuberculosis or a recent history of cancer, advanced heart, lung or liver disease and if the patient is a chronic smoker, alcohol or drug dependant.

The surgery takes approximately three hours. The donor kidney will be placed in the lower abdomen, the blood vessels from the donor kidney will be connected to the patient’s body and the ureter from the donor kidney will be connected to the patient’s bladder. Blood will start flowing through the new kidney and it begins its function of filtering.

We offer cutting edge of the practice and have vast experience in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, laser-assisted surgeries and a host of other scope-guided procedures. Our specialization in minimally invasive techniques employing ultrasound guidance, fiber optic endoscopic equipment and lasers ensure that our patients have access to cutting edge urological care.

Our Urology Center is on par with the best facilities. We have treated patients with wide range of urological issues including various forms of acute and chronic prostate conditions, pediatric urological ailments, kidney disorders, kidney stones, and more.

Common conditions treated here :

  • Stone Disease - Masses of calcium oxalate which form in the kidneys and are the result of the buildup of dissolved minerals on the inner lining are known as kidney stones. Small stones may pass without showing any symptoms however if the stone grows more than 5 mm in size it can cause a blockage causing severe pain in the lower back or abdomen. Drinking fluids can help dissolve small stones if this is not effective medication could help. Larger stones might require various medical procedures which may require
  • LITHOTRIPSY – With a combination of X-Ray and ultrasound localization for real time imaging can be seen at all times during the treatment and the pain is minimal as the patient is under mild sedation. The Lithotripter generates shockwaves, which crush dense stones into sand like particles which are then easily be eliminated from the body through urine.
  • PCNL – Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used for larger or remotely located kidney stones. It is a safe and effective way to remove larger stones or remotely located kidney stones.
  • URS / URSLC (URS Stone Removal) –Ureteric stones are removed by passing an ureteroscope through the urethra and bladder. The stone is removed with special instruments or the stone is fragmented
  • LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY – Laparoscopic surgery could be an option in certain cases depending on the size and location of stones, existing diseases, etc.
  • LASER UROLOGY – The larger stones which cannot be removed by any of the above techniques are removed by open and conventional surgery.
  • Incontinence - Involuntary passage of urine is called Urinary Incontinence (UI). This is a common and at most times an embarrassing problem. This type of problem is usually common in elderly people.

Urinary Incontinence is of different types :

  • Stress Incontinence (leakage of urine with physical activity or coughing/sneezing)
  • Urge Incontinence
  • Mixed Incontinence
  • Benign Prostate Hyperplasia
  • With age the prostate gland usually enlarges, this is referred to as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. Symptoms of BPH are difficulty in emptying the bladder, the need to urinate frequently, straining, post urination dribble or weak stream.
  • Pediatric Urological Conditions
  • Some of the conditions include Posterior urethral valves, Undescended Testes, Urinary Tract Obstruction, Bladder Control Problems such as bedwetting, Urolithiasis, Phimosis, etc

To summarize, following procedures are performed here :

  • All kinds of endourology procedures viz TURB,TURBT,URS &PCNL
  • Advanced urological reconstructive procedures
  • Gynecologic urological procedures viz procedures for stress urinary incontinence
  • Pediatrics urological procedures viz correction of congential anomalies
  • Penile prosthesis implantation
  • Treatment of male infetility
  • Treatment of neurogenic bladder
  • Urinary tract infection
