Cancer can start almost anywhere in the human body, which is made up of trillions of cells. Normally, human cells grow and multiply (through a process called cell division) to form new cells as the body needs them. When cells grow old or become damaged, they die, and new cells take their place. Sometimes this orderly process breaks down, and abnormal or damaged cells grow and multiply when they shouldn’t. These cells may form tumors, which are lumps of tissue. Tumors can be cancerous or not cancerous (benign).

Diagnostics plays a crucial role in the detection of cancer and determining its stage. It also requires a highly skilled medical oncologist and a dedicated team of support staff. Accurate cancer diagnosis relies on a variety of imaging techniques like PET/CT scan, MRI scans, biopsies along with other diagnostic tools. Cancer therapies involve a number of investigative procedures and examinations, which require taking images of the affected parts of the body. Cancer can affect any part of the body. Accordingly there may be invasive or non-invasive scanning procedures. Depending on the type of preliminary investigation, patients will undergo a combination of the following imaging techniques:

Dexa Scan, Digital Mammography, MRI, PET-CT, Ultra Sound & X-Ray, Aspiration Biopsy, biopsies, bone marrow, cervical smear, FNAC, tumor markers, proctoscopy etc.

Our Medical Oncologist has special training in diagnosing and treating cancer using chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological therapy, and targeted therapy. He also gives supportive care and may coordinate treatment given by other specialists. Chemotherapy is one of the most important treatments in all types of cancer. It targets cancer cells with drugs. There are many different types of “chemo” and it different people respond to it in different ways. Chemotherapy destroys cancer cells, but also stops or slows their growth and prevents them from spreading to other parts of the body. Chemotherapy can be a stand-alone treatment or given with other forms of intervention like radiation and surgery. The procedure can also make other treatments more effective. Chemotherapy is done both for inpatients and Daycare depending on patient's condition.

If surgical intervention is required, the affected part is performed. Surgeons are available, to appropriately intervene. State-of-the-art OT with Critical Care Units aptly support them.
